DAN PAGE
Legions of racers around the country know Dan Page of Dan Page Racecars is on of the industry's premier chassis fabricators. His creations have put many drivers in the winner's circle, earning him recognition as a leader in building consistant and reliable racecars. But, many don't know about his ability behind the wheel. During the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event in Bradenton, Florida on February 11-13, Page received his Top Alcohol Dragster (TAD) license while at the helm of Arthur Gallant's nitro fueled entry. Making the event even more memorable is his number four qualifying spot that he earned on his only qualifying run. Page went on to win a first round peddle-fest and was well on his way to a second round victory when the engine went south at the 330 foot mark. Not surprisingly he welded both of his opponents on the starting line. Dan says that driving the nitro powered dragster is not really comparable to anything else he has driven. :It has a lot of power: states Page. He has gone 5.80's before but, according to Page it just feels different. "The car pulls really hard in the middle and there is no transmission to shift, no trans brake button to let go of" said Dan adding "it would be similar to driving an automatic street car for a general comparison. You nudge the cat into the staging beams and wait for the tree, let go of the brake and get on the throttle. Reaction time seems to be much more important in winning a race in one of these cars. On a good run the race will be won in the first 300 feet. After 300 feet it almost becomes just a ride. I guess the old saying stab it and steer it would apply here.

importance of having a good clutch man. Bobby Smullen is one of
