DAN PAGE

Legions of racers around the country know Dan Page of Dan Page Racecars is on of the industry's premier chassis fabricators. His creations have put many drivers in the winner's circle, earning him recognition as a leader in building consistant and reliable racecars. But, many don't know about his ability behind the wheel. During the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event in Bradenton, Florida on February 11-13, Page received his Top Alcohol Dragster (TAD) license while at the helm of Arthur Gallant's nitro fueled entry. Making the event even more memorable is his number four qualifying spot that he earned on his only qualifying run. Page went on to win a first round peddle-fest and was well on his way to a second round victory when the engine went south at the 330 foot mark. Not surprisingly he welded both of his opponents on the starting line. Dan says that driving the nitro powered dragster is not really comparable to anything else he has driven. :It has a lot of power: states Page. He has gone 5.80's before but, according to Page it just feels different. "The car pulls really hard in the middle and there is no transmission to shift, no trans brake button to let go of" said Dan adding "it would be similar to driving an automatic street car for a general comparison. You nudge the cat into the staging beams and wait for the tree, let go of the brake and get on the throttle. Reaction time seems to be much more important in winning a race in one of these cars. On a good run the race will be won in the first 300 feet. After 300 feet it almost becomes just a ride. I guess the old saying stab it and steer it would apply here.

Anybody who knows drag racing knows the importance of having a good clutch man. Bobby Smullen is one of the best in the business. Having grown up around racing all his life, Bobby started out building and racing a dragster in Competition Eliminator, another sportsman class. After years of successful racing on his own, he joined up with Arthur Gallant in the late 90’s to form a successful racing alliance. Bobby is a top industry clutch and rear-end specialist

Driving Force for More Than 45 Years

2002 World Champion Top Alcohol Dragster

            2002, 2004, 2005 and 2008 Division One Champion

Arthur Gallant is a driver who brings a wealth of experience and intelligence to the drag racing disciplines. His theories about “A/Fuel” racing, as well as his continued competitive presence have made him one of the most widely recognized and highly respected drivers among the elite professionals in the sport of drag racing.

Building and running many of his own record setting dragsters over the years, Gallant continues to solidify his reputation as a top contender with his consistent record of excellence. Among the cars he’s built and raced were a national contender Top Alcohol Dragster in the late 70’s as well as a string of Jet Dragsters and Funny Cars. One car that Gallant drove was the first to run over 275 mph and one of his Jet Funny Cars was the first to break the 5-second barrier. His Top Alcohol Dragsters have graced the winner’s circles of such prestigious drag races as the 1999 NHRA Pennzoil Nationals and more recently the 2002 Lucas Oil nationals Reading PA, Mac Tools Gatornationals in Gainesville, FL, Lucas Oil Nationals in Brainerd, MN. and a string of Lucas Oil series points races, to clinch both the NHRA World Championship and Division 1 Championship. These wins were reported in the national press as some of the most impressive by any “A/Fuel” dragster in recent years.

With an unwavering dedication to the sport and a determination to seek out new challenges, Arthur Gallant has embarked on a mission to make his injected nitro-burner a winner in the eastern portion of the nation. With the dedicated performance of his brother and crew chief Gene Gallant, clutch-man Bobby Smullen, , there is no doubt that Gallant will go far in achieving this goal.

With his unprecedented combination of experience, motivation and persistence, Arthur Gallant is destined for increasing achievement and recognition in the NHRA.
